Why Your Facebook Ads Are Not Delivering (+ What to Do)

1. The Size of Your Audience

A common mistake when determining the size of your ad’s target audience is that people assume you need to be very specific. 

There’s a misconception that your ad has to be “very, very targeted” to reach only a selected few people. 

Don’t make this mistake. 

Of course, it is important to have an idea of your target audience in mind!

But if your ad targets a very specific amount of people – it limits the potential your ad has. 

If you don’t have at least 1,000 active users in your target audience then Facebook will not run your ad. 

Try adding additional behaviours or interests, or even extending your demographic restrictions to extend your audience reach. 

2. Ad Restrictions

Similar to audience size guidelines, Facebook also has restrictions on ads that can cause them to be disapproved or limited. 

One of the most common mistakes here is the text-to-image ratio. 

Follow the golden rule or have only 20% of text in an image. 

Facebook promotes ads by how attractive it is and if your ad has too much text then your impressions will be limited or closed off completely. 

Specific categories such as age, housing, politics, dating etc. can result in your ad being disapproved. 

Re-evaluate your ads and make sure that they fit within Facebook’s parameters so that your ad can get a better reach and more impressions. 

3. Your Ad Creative

Nailing your ad creative can go a long way. 

Transforming your ad from a mediocre one to an eye-catching one isn’t just about the content of the ad. 

It is also about how well you use your ad’s headline, description copy and CTA use. 

There are thousands of ads constantly running on Facebook at any given time. 

Make sure that you are using every part of your ad to capture your value proposition.
